​8 February 2026 was a significant and memorable occasion for Sky Quest Lab. With the support of Asian Critical Thinking Education Association, we were privileged to host 21 students from Shanghai and Chongqing, China, for an international friendly debate exchange.

 

Sky Quest Lab’s Primary and Secondary Division teams each engaged their Chinese counterparts in debates on the motion: “In light of advancements in drone technology, should the government prioritize employment protection as a prerequisite?” A total of four debate rounds were conducted.

Although framed as a friendly exchange, students from both countries demonstrated thorough preparation and intellectual rigor. The debates were enriched with references ranging from Singapore’s National Pledge to the ancient Chinese classic Shang Shu (Book of Documents); from China’s low-altitude economy policies to Singapore’s SkillsFuture initiative; and from the impact of the steam engine on textile workers during the Industrial Revolution to contemporary strategies for addressing the rise of artificial intelligence. Through diverse perspectives, students engaged in thoughtful analysis of the complex interplay between technological advancement and public policy.

During the intermissions, Sky Quest Lab’s teachers presented videos showcasing the latest developments in drone technology, further broadening students’ understanding of the topic. 

As the saying goes, “Through debate, we forge friendships; through reason, we inspire conviction.” This meaningful international exchange provided Singaporean students with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of their overseas peers, build lasting friendships, and apply classroom knowledge and skills to authentic contexts. It also fostered critical thinking within a global framework.

We look forward to future collaborations with more overseas institutions, enhancing Chinese language proficiency among Singapore’s primary and secondary students, nurturing a passion for the language through debate, and cultivating global awareness through critical inquiry.
