Sky Quest Lab Wins Championship at 2026 Zongheng Cup Chinese Debate Tournament

24 April & 10 May 2026
Online

Introduction

Sky Quest Lab has been awarded the Championship in Group C (ages 12–14) at the 2026 Spring “Zongheng Cup” International Schools Chinese Debate Tournament.

Organised by the Asian Critical Thinking Education Association, this year’s tournament was held online and brought together strong teams from Mainland China, China Hong Kong, Malaysia, and other countries and regions. Each division featured nine competing teams, making the competition highly challenging.

Sky Quest Lab sent a total of 10 students to participate, with 6 students competing in Group C (ages 12–14) and 4 students competing in Group D (under 12).

In the Group C division, our six students advanced steadily through each round, demonstrating strong critical thinking, confident delivery, and excellent teamwork. Their outstanding performance ultimately earned them the championship title, showcasing the impressive Chinese language proficiency and analytical abilities of Sky Quest Lab students.

At the same time, our four Group D students also delivered commendable performances in their very first formal international debate competition. While they may not have reached the podium this time, they courageously took their first step onto the competitive stage, preparing diligently, thinking critically, and speaking boldly throughout the process. Their willingness to challenge themselves reflects both their strong learning attitude and tremendous potential. For them, this competition marks a valuable milestone and an important starting point for future growth.

Throughout the tournament, students engaged in intense exchanges over diverse and highly relevant debate motions. In Group C, the preliminary round focused on whether spending limits should be imposed on virtual games; the semi-final examined whether video-based parenting is an inferior approach; and the final centred on whether robots performing martial arts represent innovation in martial arts or its dilution. Students were required to rapidly shift between positions and logical frameworks across different topics, putting their critical thinking abilities and on-the-spot responsiveness to a comprehensive test.

Facing strong competitors from Beijing, Shanghai, Fuzhou, and China Hong Kong—regions with highly developed Chinese language environments—the Group C team from Singapore ultimately stood out with solid argumentation, clear expression, and strong teamwork to secure the championship.

What makes this achievement especially meaningful is that these students, who have grown up within Singapore’s local education system, were able to step onto an international Chinese debating stage and perform with fluency, clarity of thought, and composure. They truly demonstrated the language capability and intellectual maturity of Singapore students on the international stage.

This victory is not simply the result of one competition, but a reflection of the students’ long-term dedication, consistent effort, and courage to take on new challenges. We are deeply grateful to our teachers, parents, and every student for their commitment and support throughout this journey.

Moving forward, Sky Quest Lab will continue to connect students to the world through language and empower them to explore broader possibilities through critical thinking.
